Churches in Greatford Parish

St Thomas of Canterbury Greatford

Main Street Greatford Stamford
01778 560437

If you like the Traditional Language of the Prayer book you will feel at home here in Greatford.

The Church of St Thomas of Canterbury, (aka St Thomas Becket), is a grade 1 listed building in the early English style, though its latest addition was in 2015 - a new stained glass window in memory of Thomas Becket. The church is the burial place of Dr Francis Willis, ordained priest who - with his son - attended King George III and combined traditional methods of treating the King's ‘madness' with more enlightened, forward-looking methods. Nolleken's fine bust of Francis Willis and the Willis memorial tablets in the chapel (in the North Transept) attract visitors to the church. The church is open daily.

Greatford is a small village of about 250 people. There are usually two services each month: Holy Communion, Common Worship Order 2, on the second and fourth Sunday at 9am.  Look at the events and services for all of our seasonal celebrations.

The Parish of St Thomas, Greatford is one of the seven parishes which make up the Uffington Group of Churches. They lie in the South West corner of Lincolnshire, in the triangle between the market towns of Stamford, Market Deeping and Bourne. The other parishes are St Martin, Barholm-with-Stowe; St Margaret, Braceborough; St Lawrence, Tallington; St Michael and All Angels, Uffington; St Andrew, West Deeping; St Faith, Wilsthorpe.

The Rector of the Uffington Group, Fr Aran Beesley may be contacted on 07590 055905 or email: [email protected]  especially for Baptism enquiries and contact with those who are ill.
